Bettina Wright, LCSW, LCDC I'm a Psychotherapist and Consultant in private practice, specializing in trauma and abuse survivors and addictions. My other areas of expertise include family issues, relationship coaching, grief and loss counseling, crisis intervention and life transitions.
I am certified in Radix®, a type of therapy that teaches body awareness and provides techniques to discharge emotions that prevent people from feeling fully present in their lives. Radix® is especially helpful in working through issues of trauma and emotional, physical and sexual abuse.
Through my love of horses and my experience with their healing skills, I have added Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy to my practice. Sessions take place at the Aldine Westfield Stables, about 30 minutes from the Galleria area. This encounter between human and horse can lead to amazing "aha moments" about our most deeply rooted patterns. Equine therapy can be beneficial in working with whatever you come to therapy to address.
Before opening my own practice in 1996, I was administrator of John Lucas Enterprises and clinical director of the John Lucas Residential Treatment Center, a chemical dependency treatment facility in Houston. I was also director of the Behavioral Health Unit at Spring Branch Medical Center, intake coordinator/case manager at Intracare Hospital and family program director and treatment counselor at the Houston Recovery Campus. I'm licensed by the State of Texas as a Clinical Social Worker and Chemical Dependency Counselor. I hold a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin, with dual specializations in Child and Family Services and Chemical Dependency. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of St. Thomas in Houston.
I serve on the Advisory Council of the University of Texas School of Social Work and the Board of the Texas Research Society on Alcoholism. My community involvement has included the Council on Alcohol & Drugs - Houston, Circles of Women South Central, the American Heart Association, The Houston Ballet and the Museum of Fine Arts-Houston.
